Oliver!
This was a story that ran in a Major newspaper when my Father lived. I remember it well because he had me put it his Scrap Book that he had me make for him. In fact, he had many………
OLIVER!
There was this being that was found walking upright through the Jungle that seemed oddly just as much human as it appeared to be Primate. It was a strange looking find and the man who found it gave him the name Oliver. Then and there I knew if I ever had a son, that would be the last name to come to mind!
There were examinations ran on the Creature saying that we humans have a combined 46 Chromosomes, an Ape has 48 and this being was found to have 47. Whoa, I am thinking. Maybe it was my youth and my lack of cynicism that made Oliver the topic many times. I drew people in to see it. “Whoa” was always the response (okay not that dramatic).
But I believed it. Why wouldn’t I? And Oliver looked really sly sitting there with no doubt and Army Suit on! What was that about? What Army in tarnation was he in? Well Dad believed it too and of course you might have believed it, but in the back of your mind you wonder “How” as well. And since my Dad had me to order that book called “Very Special People” about real Human Oddities that also came up in the Guinness Book, I guess I could believe many things if there was a little lady so small they named her “Thumbelina” or the “Dancing Doll” or something, standing about 16 inches, on a Vanity, I could believe in Old Oliver!
Well, surprise, Oliver was a fake. A Hoax. Can you imagine, years since my father died, me looking through the Family for that strange book and the Scrapbooks that it took my brother to tell me not so very long ago that way back then, they discovered Ole Ollie to be a Hoax? Well, in a way I was sad, but in another I think I kind of new. But I asked him “Why didn’t you tell me” and he said “You read a lot, I thought you knew”. Well, I didn’t. Well as much as I have searched, I never found a picture of Ole Ollie and never, found the Album either. I know one of my brothers had it because we gave them Dad’s personal effects like watches and books, but I wanted my Scrapbook, after all, I am the one who placed that Hoax in there! Peace.

Liked it
How disappointing he was a hoax. Good article
Great article
Nice story Jswana. Loved reading it. Good share.
Interesting. Thanks.
Well written. Thank you.
Nice family story. Enjoyed reading.
Very interesting. I really
enjoyed this.
This was such a hoax that it appeared in either the Chicago Tribune, Sun Times or the now defunct Chicago American. Truly respected News Mediums. I can still see old Oliver looking strangely like both man and Ape with that army beret and jacket. I can see responsible Newspapers like these buying the story but my brother said that it was a complete story on the hoax as they found out later but I never read of it being a hoax and sincerely thought it was true until I brought the subject up much, much later. So yes, I enjoyed the speculation but it was really a hoax!
Thanks a lot for this
Thanks for sharing it.
Don’t remember Oliver, I did hear about Big Foot.
Very cute. Thanks.
